Di burst into laughter as well.

When she finally stopped laughing, she looked at Aveira, completely seriously.

"I'm going to die this year."

Aveira raised one eyebrow. "Can I be the one to kill you?" she asked, also looking completely serious. If Di was gonna die then God damnit, she would be the one to kill her. Not some stranger.

"Sorry. I'm going to bomb on the NEWTs, and Dad's got dibs."

She grinned. "Darn. But I shall protect you, my pet! Together we shall face the wrath of your father!" She pulled her into a sideways hug with her arm in front of her, looking off into the distance in the most dramatic pose she could muster.

Di laughed, hugging Aveira.

"That might be a bit of a trick," she said, laughing.

She shrugged again. "Or you could always study." She managed to look at Di seriously for three seconds before her black lips broke into a smile and she giggled. Di didn't study. She was too busy not caring. Much like Aveira, actually.

"Study? The last time I studied was an overnight cram for the OWLs. Thank you very much."

"So cram for the NEWTS too. Your OWLS weren't that bad." She flicked her wand in the direction of a small, mousy looking girl with large glasses and oily hair studying intently. "It could be worse. You could look like that Studying on the first day? Pathetic."

"Who studies on the first day, anyway? Geez."

Aveira flicked her wand at the books in front of the girl, causing them to burst into flame. Not real fire, of course. Just an extremely good illusion. It even generated heat.
Aveira grinned as the girl toppled over backwards an tried to beat the 'flames' out with her sweater.

Aveira snickered. "Most likely. But this is more fun." She moved her wand again, the flames jumping onto her sweater.

Aveira leaned back, putting her boot-clad feet on one of the tables as she danced her wand in the air. The fire moved to the girl's hair. She started crying before realizing it didn't hurt. Her mouth dropped open in wonder. "Mudblood," Aveira muttered.
